In President Obama Weekly Address of March 14, 2009 he appointed the new leader of the FDA (Food and Drug administration) Dr. Margaret Hamburg. Dr. Hamburg has worked on research for the infectious disease at the National institutes of Health among other positions listed below:

Public health projects at the Department of Health and Human Services
Biodefense at the Nuclear Threat Initiative
She was the youngest member elected to the national Academy of Scienes’ Institute of Medicine
Commissioner of New York City Health
Lead an international initiative to cut tuberculosis rates

Dr. Hamburg will be joined by Dr. Joshua Sharfstein, who will hold the Deputy commissioner’s seat. Dr. Sharfstein was the health commissioner of Baltimore.
